I’ve come to terms that I’ll never remember to take my Nature Made® Fish Oil 1200mg Burp-Less supplements every day, that I’ll never be a morning person, and that I’ll probably never consistently remember my gym shoes until I’m already at the gym. Which is why I’ve started packing a gym bag every night so that I don’t even have to think about what to grab before I run out the door. Yes, without shoes on.
I’ve tried so hard to be a morning person, but it just doesn’t seem to ever stick. I’ve done the positive thinking thing, caffeine first thing in the morning, exercise right away, ALL the things, and the only thing that seems to work for making my morning a breeze is travel. For some reason I’m a supra-morning person when I travel.
Alas, I cannot live the gypsy life, so I’ve had to come up with ways to get around the whole “my brain doesn’t function until 8am” thing. I’m tired of fighting it, so nighttime Summer sets things up for morning Summer so that afternoon Summer is set up for success.
When I’ve got a morning where I need to be out the door early to get to the gym, I forget everything. I’ve literally arrived to the gym and realized I forgot my gym shoes. Can’t do clean & jerks in flip flops, right? I also forget my water bottle, and sometimes I even forget to eat. OK I lied, I never forget to eat. I just don’t feel like cooking something to eat in the morning. It’s laziness. Or just not morning personness. I don’t know. I just want it to be ready so I can grab it and run out the door!
There’s a formula to this, this “What’s in my Bag” doesn’t just apply for women like me who workout and work from home. This can be for the busy mom running out the door to an early playdate, a working mom, a single mom who has to get herself and her kids ready for school every day, a retired woman who is running out the door to play golf with her friends.
It can apply to us ALL, and it’s going to have to apply to me later in life I’m sure, because this whole “I hate mornings” thing isn’t going away anytime soon.
The thing is, this does take a little bit of planning on your part, so as long as you’re okay doing a little planning and setting yourself up for success before your head hits the pillow, you’ll be doin’ alright.
Enough of my blabbing, here’s the formula:
Sustenance + Comfort + Necessity = A Good Day
So what, exactly, does that look like? Well, for you it’s going to look a little different, and some of these items could go in all three categories. Like food. That’s sustenance and comfort and completely necessary. I can’t function without something in my belly.
Here’s what my bag looks like:
Grab & Go food
I cannot workout without something in my belly, I feel weak and I see spots. I don’t eat a full meal before I work out, but I do need an egg or a Pumpkin Puck. Something light that will do the trick and not give me heartburn while I’m doing burpees. In this case, Pumpkin Pucks are a great go-to because they don’t have to be refrigerated or reheated. Another good grab & go would be egg muffins, but you’d have to remember to heat those up before you leave, so it’s entirely up to what you’re capable of in the morning.
Shoes & Socks
I really don’t like wearing shoes. I’m a barefoot kinda gal, and shoes are the last things I put on once I get to the gym. I wear flip flops out of the house and to drive in then I put shoes and socks on at the gym once I get there. Don’t be like me and leave the house without your shoes.
Keys, wallet, & lipgloss in a pouch
I can’t be the only person who runs around in circles, tearing her purse apart every morning to find the car keys, can I? My car is a push-start so I don’t need eyes on the keys to start the car, but when I have to drive Kyle’s car *sideeye* I have to locate the keys which is a terrible way to start my day. Terrible. It gives me an immediate headache. Plus, I feel a little extra when I walk into the gym with a gym bag *and* a purse, so I put my keys, wallet, and some lipgloss in a pouch that I can just move from bag to bag quickly.
Deodorant
Please tell me I’m not the only one who forgets to put deodorant on before they leave the house a regular basis?
Water bottle
This goes without saying, right? WRONG! I leave my water bottle at home all the time, and at doctors offices and grocery stores and the gymnastics gym. On days I forget my water bottle, I wind up dehydrated which makes me cranky, gives me a headache, and makes me crave sugar. Bad.
Change of clothes
I live near the beach, so I do try to keep a bag with dry clothes in it in the car at all times. I also never know when I’m going to stay out to work or socialize (the glamorous life, y’all), so having a change of clothes is really more for the people around me than for myself. One of the most beautiful things about being a woman is that I can roll a dress up and stick it in my bag for whenever I might use it. This particular dress is magical and I don’t need any undergarments for it. One and DONE!
Supplements
I can’t take my supplements before I workout because I wind up burping vitamins during a workout which just makes me want to throw up. Also because (and let’s just be honest) I forget. When I have them in my bag, I remember to take them when I pull my water out. I have this nifty little pill container that I just refill with my Nature Made® Burpless Fish Oils , Vitamin D, Vitamin B Complex, probiotics, multivitamin, and Magnesium so that I never forget to take my vitamins.
Nature Made® Fish Oil 1200mg Burp-Less
My doctor recommended a few years ago that I start taking a fish oil supplement. I’ve been on and off of them ever since. I can’t stand burping fish oil an hour after I take the supplement. It makes me literally gag. I found one that had lemon essential oil in it that gave me heinous heartburn. But now, (THANK NATURE MADE®) there’s a Burp-Less Fish Oil that you can get at Walmart as either a single or two-pack. Every 2 softgels provide 720 mg of heart health Omega-3s (600 mg EPA/DHA). † Nature Made’s Burp-Less formula Fish Oil is specially coated to help prevent a fishy odor and aftertaste. Note the matte look of the softgels in the pics above! Nature Made® fish oil supply only comes from wild caught ocean fish, not farm raised fish.

Becoming a morning person is still a work in progress for me. My husband gets up to work out at 3:30am! I’ve slowly started going with him that early before getting home to get the teens off to school. ~client

THAT IS THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!!! Holy smokes! What on earth time do you have to go to bed to get up that early? I don’t think I could do that. I seriously bow down!
